A Watched Kettle
A flying squirrel crawled about the remains of a tank. None of the local children knew how the hulk of metal ended up here. They called it The Kettle. It smelled like rotten rubber and earthy rainwater. A smattering of craters led up to where the tank was now.

Magic: It’s Elementary.
I love the whole idea of the elements as a way of understanding the world. Not just the classical four, which I’m accustomed to calling the “Greek elements,” but many elemental systems. I started to become aware that I loved this idea in elementary school, but I don’t remember a time in my life when the elements – or at least, their application in fantasy – didn’t hold some grip on me.
