Loneliness is more than just being alone.

Loneliness is a longing for a life you used to live,

For the good times you used to embrace.

Loneliness is remembering,

The way life was before.

Loneliness is more than just being alone.

It’s when you try to reach out and be a friend,

But you’re not needed any more.

When you try to make people laugh,

But they don’t pay attention any more.

They scroll past your words of wisdom,

The funny jokes and memes,

And the brilliant anecdotes,

Because you're not worth their time anymore.

Loneliness is more than just being alone.

It’s so,

Just so much more.

Loneliness is when you need a hug,

Or two, or three, or more.

But no, we have a pandemic now.

Or maybe we just don’t like you,

Anymore.

And when the ones who used to greet you,

With a warm smile and a cheery hello,

Don’t even look at you anymore,

The way they used to,

Then you know that loneliness,

Is more,

So much more,

Than just being alone.

Then you wonder what you did wrong,

Even though you know you meant no harm.

And you go to where they are,

But they just wander on out the door.

And you long for those connections,

That used to warm your soul,

But now you’re just broken,

Nothing is the same as before.

Loneliness is more,

So much more,

Than just being alone.
