Playoffs? Are You Kidding Me?Top Story - October 2022
Hello readers, I hope you all have been enjoying my recent posts. It’s been a while since I’ve written an NFL blog, but I’ve decided to give it another try. We are almost a third of the way through the 2022-23 NFL season and so far, there have been a handful of teams that did not make the postseason last year but have showed some noticeable improvement and/or displayed flashes of upside that seem to indicate they could be contenders when January arrives. I’ve identified seven such teams and consulted my (imaginary) magic eight ball to seek answers to the question… will (insert team name here) make the playoffs this season?

Clear Blue Skies
Clear Blue Skies Have you ever had a dream that was so scary and so intense, and so vivid… that you can still remember it, in great detail, many years later? A dream that was so real that when you woke from it, you felt as though it really happened? I know I have. I’m sure most of us can probably say yes. When you wake up from that kind of dream, and you realize it really wasn’t real, you feel relieved… don’t you? But what if that dream… was more than just a dream? What if the images and events that our subconscious minds had just played for us… were replayed in real life? Perhaps as a sign of things to come? Or maybe even… in the real and present time? Maybe, just maybe... these kinds of dreams are trying to teach us something valuable. If only we'd take the time, in our busy and hectic lives, to stop and think... what can I learn from some of these dreams?

Manuscript Unleashed, Part One
To my readers... it's October, and what better time is there for a spooky tale? I originally wrote this fictional story in 2015 and published it as an e-book on Amazon, just as I did with "To Chase The Rainbow." I've made a few edits to the original story, mostly within the dialogue in an effort to make it flow better, and broken it up into two parts since it's a rather long one. I've also changed the name of the original title... it is now called "Manuscript Unleashed." Thank you for reading, and I hope you enjoy.

A Beacon Of Light While My World Fell Apart
The picture you see above was taken in December of 2014. It is nearly 8 years old and yet, to this day, it is my signature photo. I use it as my profile picture here on Vocal, as well as Instagram and Facebook… and Google/Youtube… pretty much everywhere I have an active presence online. “Back To The Manger” was the name of the play… the annual Christmas play my church puts on every year. That night still stands out as my favorite memory in all of the nearly 25 years I’ve been a part of my church. The photograph itself is a reminder of that night, which served as a beacon of light while at the same time my world was crumbling down all around me.

To Chase The Rainbow
To my readers... although this is a fictional story, it is based on a real life dog named Sunshine. Sunshine was my first ever pet from when I was much younger, and is still my favorite to this day. He was acquired from a co-worker of my mom's... who found him and brought him in after his previous "owner" had abused and then subsequently abandoned him.

I Can Become Unbroken Again
The other day, I took a hike along the Mount Vernon Trail in Arlington VA… just outside our nation’s capital. As I made my way closer to Gravelly Point Park, I paused to take this picture… and then I stood there for a few minutes, reflecting on all the memories that came rushing back. This was my old work station, or a portion of it anyway. It wasn’t so long ago either; as only just a little more than two months ago, I was down there on the tarmac… one of the best jobs I’d ever had. As I continued along my hike, I began to consider what a wild year this 2022 had shaped up to be.

From The Heart
Scared. Overwhelmed. And very much alone. That’s the way it appears I am starting 2022. It’s been quite a long while, a little over a year in fact, since I last published anything here on Vocal. I had some drafts I’d been working on, including the last two installments of the 2020 story… but then I began a new job in January and had very little time to keep up with writing. The new job started off great… the first half of 2021 was probably the most productive few months I’ve ever had over the course of my 17 year career.

NFL Week 13, In Review
Week 13 of the 2020 NFL season is now officially in the books, and we are exactly three quarters of the way through the regular season. Last week, in my picks, I went 9-6. I’ll review the picks I got wrong here, before taking a look at the current playoff races in each conference and predicting the division winners and wildcard teams, then close with my pick for tonight’s Thursday night game. It’s a lot to cover, so let’s get started.

Miracle At Heinz Field
It has been a year of great uncertainty for all of us. The global pandemic that took control of the world in March brought a halt to many things we’ve always taken for granted, including… professional sports. The NBA season was suspended just a few weeks away from the start of the postseason; and would not resume play again until late in the month of July. Major league baseball delayed the start of their season until right about the same time that basketball started up again; and then nearly had to call off the season after several clubs reported outbreaks amongst ball players and other team personnel. There were many among us who wondered, and perhaps even doubted, if the National Football League would have a season at all in 2020.
