Day 3 (Noon): A Bone to Pick (Literally)

I tricked my mom to watch the pup,  then kicked my feet and sat right up.  But soon she shooed me to the yard—  "Go get some sun, you’re pale as lard!"  The pup chased bu with boundless cheer,  while Mom snoozed in her lawn chair near.  Then—aha!—he saw his chance arise,  with twinkling paws and scheming eyes.  He dug up pots with reckless speed,  a tiny, furry whirlwind breed!  Till yip He found his buried prize—  a bone! (Mom woke—oh, what surprise!)  I fled before her scolding came,  while pup just wagged (no hint of shame).  Now dirt’s flung high and pots askew…  Who knew a dog could landscape too?

I roped Mom into being a dog-sitter, and now I’m relaxing and watching a sitcom. Soon, I was relocated to the backyard garden—why, you ask? Because Mom thinks I need more sun; I was turning pale.  Lying on a recliner with a chilled drink in hand, I watched as my nephew’s puppy happily chased butterflies. I think my mom dozed off. Yep, definitely dozed off.  As if realizing his minder wasn’t watching him, the puppy stopped in his tracks. He turned his little head to look at Mom, then started wagging his tail excitedly, as if he’d finally gotten a chance to cause mischief.  He ran to the corner where we’d placed empty pots on the soft brown soil. Wagging his tail, he began sniffing and digging, then moved on and repeated the process.  Soon, that area was covered in holes—at least it was unused. The puppy yipped—he’d found something! He lifted his head, and I saw his treasure… a bone.  The excited yapping made Mom stir, and I made my hasty escape, not wanting to be scolded for letting the puppy have his way. I’d just gotten behind the door when Mom woke up.  Oh boy! She was not impressed with the landscaping. The puppy’s ears drooped, and he tucked his tail as if apologizing. From the window, I watched as he “helped” Mom put everything back in order.  Have you ever had such a landscaping experience?
