lo-la-lover

for my special person, because seven years is a long time

navy blue

is how I love you

all the deep and dark

parts you try to hide

and all the goodness

you have inside

-

crimson red

until we are dead

the world will unfold

and I’ll be at your side

always making sure to

keep up with your stride

-

forest green

the slightest sheen

of tears in my eyes

you’ve embrace the darkness

yet you’re tired of lies

made sick by no bliss

sometimes it feels like

we’re stuck in the pits

-

pale purple

we live in this circle

of life

it hurts and it kills

it frightens the mind

but with your hand in mine

I think we might make it

-

inky black

we’re under attack

by a million unmade decisions

if only we could revert

back in time just a bit

waking up might not hurt

as much

-

dark pink

my hands stained with ink

your eyes marred with doubt

no peace in your mind

thoughts whip around harshly

no answers to find

-

light grey

please stay

hold me here all night

and rock me to sleep

be my escape

from this dread that creeps

in like the morning light

-

sky blue

I love you

but I don’t love myself

and I’m scared of the shadows

lurking under your shelf

-

soft brown

we sit down

and we breathe

and we live

we deceive

we feel shame

we share smiles

we forgive

-

turquoise

I’m not poised

to be like you are

strong-willed and so adamant

so I learn from you

by watching, I’m soothed

praying I’ll change a bit

starting to glow a tint

-

orange-yellow

I’ve always been mellow

you love me for it

not for the weakness it’s held

in the past, but for my brightness

that gleams in the dark where I dwell

-

color of sand

I mark this land

as yours and mine

it isn’t perfect

and I know we mess up

time after time

but I know we will make it

I glisten; you shine

-

This poem is dedicated to my significant other, as we recently celebrated our seven year anniversary together—which is surreal. I am so deeply grateful to have him in my life as my best friend.
