High in the Rocky Mountains

There's a place that I know

And I felt I just had to go

Water and bedrock

And they carry me on my way

But they'll tell you it's just another day

Been a long while now

Since I've seen these hills

The river and all its bends

All the passes made with good friends

Stuck in this capsule of time

Where all the pines come to ends

I can watch the mends of my life

As the sun reflects in the river's gaze

My mind just seems to float away

In this little basin I call mine

It hasn't been such a long time

Like the reflections of all my yesterdays

Go swimming by in the ripples I feel

Wading down this memory of mine

Searching for some respite from time

And seeing how the colors change

And just how much I have aged

And the landscape seems so rearranged

Just like the contours of my life

As the sawgrass goes blowing by

And the mountains seem to stand so high

Waiting for a cutthroat to rise

Fishing through the depths I can find

High in the Rockies forgetting about time

Reaching out to that best pal of mine

And in just another day or so

I'll be where I wanted to go

Learn to shake this reckless feeling of mine

But I hear you down in the rocks below

Singing in the river's flow

I know I'm searching for something I can't find

And it's so far to find my way

And the sun is drifting away

And the purple hues don't want to stay

I don't know if I can make that climb

Thicket-covered and prickly pines

Something about it feels divine

So when I find it

Won't you come into this house of mine

Just over the hill and down below

There is a little basin that I call mine

Drifting through eternal time

Sitting with that best pal of mine

Watching the Milky Way

Learning about my stay

And a golden sunset drifting by my mind

In this little basin I call mine
