Listen to Me, Not Him
Listen to me not him
He doesn't know your mind
His words are full of poison
His heart is never kind
You know that I adore you
You know I need you near
So why do you keep listening
To things you shouldn't hear
He stood beside the window
And watched her turn away
Then told her she was foolish
For wanting him to stay
He said her friends were jealous
Her family never cared
And only he could love her
Through everything they shared
He took away her freedom
One little piece each day
Until she stopped resisting
And did just what he'd say
He searched her private letters
He questioned every call
And told her if she loved him
She'd never leave at all
Listen to me not him
His voice began to rise
She saw the growing madness
Behind his pleading eyes
He spoke as though he owned her
Her body and her soul
And every time she questioned
He tightened his control
She looked into the mirror
And barely knew her face
The woman she remembered
Had vanished without trace
Listen to me not him
He shouted at the door
But she had found her courage
And listened no more
