lion.

under the red carpet

you undressed me slowly

quietly and softly

peelin’ off all layers of my psyche

like the pages of the oldest book

turn yellow with fear

bein’ exposed too soon

before all magic has a rare chance

of bein’ unleashed;

I didn’t feel comfortable at first

but later, when all the fireworks stopped

I thought you were the only one

who had the green light to enter

this comfort zone hidden within me;

so delicately be there with you

with your soul, but you couldn’t know

clearly

that by talkin’ to me

your words will have a profound effect

stampin’ my experience

with you at the helm

this is the only time you have permission

and I feel comfortable with it

knowin’

that you are the carpet knight of my queendom

pickin’ up the gauntlet

to fight for your mistress

when everyone else

they dared to show

only wanton cruelty screamin’

from their mouths

and scammin’ my soul with their insultin’ words

if not directly, then inconspicuously

always aimin’ at

agitation of convenances

at the most unfavourable times
