Like the carousel ride

Round and round

Like the carousel

Like the carousel, forever in motion,

my mind won’t grant me rest.

Memories spin like painted horses,

each one sharper than the next.

The weight of a choice I can’t outrun,

etched in the marrow of bone.

Will the grave unshackle my sorrow,

or will I carry it into the unknown?

I should have held on, steadied my hands,

but pride can be cruel and unkind.

Now I walk with the ghost of regret,

a shadow that won’t leave my mind.

Nights stretch long with whispers and echoes,

a chorus of what-ifs and might-have-beens.

I trace the past in sleepless silence,

chasing moments I’ll never mend.

The world still turns, indifferent, unshaken,

while I drown in the weight of my loss.

Time may soften, but it won’t forgive,

some bridges, once burned, stay crossed.

Why did I ever let you go?

I gave up to easy, now pay the price.

The most foolish thing I could have done.

Foolish actions of a teenage love affair.
