Light Years Away (Love Letters Through the Cosmos)

"I reach out to the ether..."

By Kourtney RisherPublished 7 years ago 1 min read
Painting by Yayoi Kusama

I reach out to the ether,

but you’re slipping away.

You could have been my universe,

but the cosmos has other plans.

You’re floating from me at speeds in light-years.

You miss me now, but for how long?

As you embrace the arms of the cosmos,

will you need mine?

You’re the most beautiful star in the universe.

You’ll feel less lonely when you meet your new kin.

As much as I long for you,

I realize that I need to stop reaching through the ether.

The universe can give you more than I ever could.

I will be earthbound till death,

though my love for you will be as infinite as space.

Time to say goodbye, my love.

You are free.
