Light

unlit

By Thomas DurbinPublished 12 months ago • 1 min read

It may soon be my time to pass,

Mind muses as I rest upon the grass,

In the darkness of a cloudy night,

Interrupted only by the faintest light,

Feet are shuffled and knees extend,

Anxious to reach the trail's end,

Escaping that dark and gloomy plight,

Signaled only by the faintest light,

Safety to reach before break of day,

Enveloped in darkness making my way,

Visions of reaching my dear delight,

Guided only by the faintest light,

Steeled against a mortal's fear,

Nerves evoke protective spear,

Twinkling in the distant night,

Hope rests near the faintest light,

Moving forward through veil thin,

Spirits haunt and dance again,

Sprites and goblins nearby alight,

Obscuring hope and faintest light,

Ambush launched from all around,

Spilt, my blood, now soaks the ground,

When nearby gleam reaches my sight,

Growing from the faintest light,

Spurred by the power of memories and love,

Saintly visage now hovers above,

Whispers my love now take your flight,

Life fades in lantern's faintest light.
