Let’s Discuss Those Soppy Feelings

Without mentioning the word that sums it all up

The month of adoration and worship is on us again,

It holds a day of celebrating one’s feelings for a special someone,

Some plan for a romantic dinner date,

While others look forward to the day of quietude in one another’s arms,

Either way, to honour your partner is amazing and magical.

**

This month the romantics in us rifle through our memories,

Memories of the day they met, the first date, the first kiss,

Beautiful moments melded together,

Priceless points in time that deserve to be honoured and remembered for always,

Those experiences that cement two peoples feelings.

**

February is the month of twosomes, of partnerships,

Of commitments and lifelong dreams,

Of giving and receiving, of making precious moments count,

To take the time to appreciate the goodness of another human being,

And the connection that turns an ordinary life into an amazing life.

**

Nothing is more precious than the affection, the deep connection that forms,

When two hearts merge to beat as one,

And a life of longing, of synchronicity and preciousness is born,

Treasured in this month of appreciation and gratitude,

For the one that stands with you; true and loyal.

**

Long term couples understand the importance of this celebration,

Knowing everyday life and especially responsibilities can get in the way,

But there’s a time when all the magic welcomes the attention,

To blossom, to deepen, to solidify to such a deep rooted connection,

That they no longer know where one person ends and the other person begins.

**

Congratulations to those who realise the wisdom of taking the time,

Using this month to honour their ecstasy,

Not because societal norms depict it should be so,

But because they understand the importance of acknowledging the beauty,

And the sacrifices made within a powerful and lasting partnership.

I was prompted to write about “love” without using the word love throughout my piece. This is the result of that prompt.

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.

Whoaaaa, for a poem that didn't use the word love, it sure had a lot of love in it! You nailed this challenge my friend!

  • Challenge well met, Colleen. So if it's not too personal, how do you plan to spend Valentine's Day?
