They say we can’t appreciate
What we have until it’s gone.
We learn, we love, we act too late
And see where we went wrong.
It’s a lesson we all must learn,
Though I wish it wasn’t so.
One day we’ll each have our turn,
One day we all will know.
I’ve felt loss and heartache,
A yearning for the past,
Fears I couldn’t shake,
And hope that didn’t last.
I mourn for someone who lives,
Someone who turned away from me,
They are cold and unwilling to forgive,
Because they refuse to see.
I’ve been exiled by family and friend,
because of the truths I’ve spoken.
Bonds I thought would never end,
I now fear are forever broken.
There’s a pain in losing things,
A kind of falling apart,
And even though it stings,
I’ve learned to mend my heart.
