Just like You

I was baptized

in the water

because You were

before me

a publicly private

declaration

that I know

who You are and

what You did

for me before

my generations

even existed

You knew everything

about me then

You wrote my

whole life

then, there

in the water

I began

a thick shell

slowly sank in

the water when

I sat up

everything not

of You

layered over years

of living in

the world

the remnants of

who I once was

Living water

etching my essence

swelling my soul

flooding the chambers

of my heart

with Your

blood

I got baptized

just like You

because

You are.

Amen.

"Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan to be baptized by him. And John tried to prevent Him, saying, β€œI need to be baptized by You, and are You coming to me?” But Jesus answered and said to him, β€œPermit it to be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he allowed Him. When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him. And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, β€œThis is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” Matthew‬ ‭3‬:‭13‬-‭17‬ ‭NKJV
