In cloistered halls where silence swells
'Neath crepe myrtle veils of bridal blush,
Unburdened by the binding thirst
Of flesh-fueled wantonness and lust,
I languished in sepulchral seas
Midst silken sheets, sought sanctuary.
And time, perpetual and free
Continuous washed over me.
As verdant ivy weakens stone,
And constant drips a pathway find,
So thoughts of you unbidden crept,
Breached borders of unconscious mind.
And once awoken, cruel sleep
Evades my every primal urge,
With memories of your sweet visage
I’d hoped might ne’er again resurge.
Your eyes my beacons on the shore,
Your honeyed voice rides o’er each wave,
That calls to my stuporous soul,
With thoughts to destroy or to save.
And like a sailor cast adrift,
In peril on tumultuous seas,
My heart thrums violent in my chest,
My palms upraised in silent pleas.
You siren, your seditious ways
Might overcome my better sense,
And hardened heart can soften still
When battered by such sweet offense.
I find I have not will to fight,
And yearn to feel where once was numb,
There’s no resisting your embrace,
So to your whims I shall succumb.
Be gentle with me, this I ask,
My bruised and battle-broken heart,
Is yours to do with as you will,
To nurture or to dash apart.
To cherish or to cast aside,
Like Samson to Delilah’s sway,
Your love a fractal rainbow light
Forever casting out the grey.
