Everything seems like a cage
So eager to confine
But society is thrilled to define
We learn to ask questions like
“Who do you like?”
Girls? Boys?
And “What are you?”
A girl? A boy?
Settling for the extremes,
We learn to reject the spectrum in between
When directed at me, I'm not sure how to answer
I toss my hands up
I swear
And ask what does it matter
I’ve never been good at math
So I don’t understand what these questions add up to
It’s not me and I think there’s more to you too
My own mom has called me insane
Because to me all these question seem inane
Society might call it defining
I call it limiting,
Superficial,
inconsequential
So, kindly, keep all the labels
As that discussion is no longer on the table
If you want to know me,
Instead ask about colors,
For they fill me with wonders
That discussion can truly reveal what’s within
With no repercussion
Let’s talk about the rainbow
Rather than something so shallow
About the Creator

To quote Susan Sontag, "How can I describe my life to you? I think a lot, listen to music, I'm fond of flowers." I would add I love reading and writing as well.
