Distantly, I’m aware and oblivious to the world around me.

In my defense, I couldn’t afford the luxury of being carefree.

Sending emails, and scheduling meetings, were my responsibilities.

Time and again, it seemed my efforts beget futility.

Regret is a useless emotion, at least according to my boss.

Accepting failure is not one of her better qualities.

Callous, perfectionist, a devil in Prada is what she is.

Time stands still, a horn punctures the air, in long continuous bursts.

I look up and tear my eyes away from the phone forever in hand.

Over my shoulder, the other pedestrians shout compensating for my lack,

Never did I expect to see a bus barreling toward me.
