Just Us

What happens when we're together?

Whenever we’re together,

the universe stands still

The air moves around so gently

tugging at the tiny hairs on our skin.

Your arms become the blanket

Your chest a bed of pillow-soft grass

Your scent,

overwhelmingly saccharine

leaves saliva

drooling in my mouth.

It takes my taste buds hostage

Paralyzes my vocal cords

where the words

forming in my throat

have nowhere to get out.

My mind stops comprehending

Feet firmly planted in the ground

Intoxicated by your presence

Reality

weaving its way

in and out.

Call me slow-witted

Desperate for love

A giddy schoolgirl

who is

severely hooked on dopamine.

Let this feeling last always

Forever stamped in time

For whenever we’re together,

the stars are all aligned.
