JUST LIKE MAMA SAID

My mama always told me,
To listen to my heart,
She said when something feels wrong,
You should know when to part.

She warned me about people,
Who smile but hide their ways,
She said that some will love you,
Then change on different days.

I thought that she was worrying,
And didn’t understand,
I thought that I knew better,
And had my own life planned.

Then someone came into my life,
And made me feel so sure,
He promised me forever,
And swore his love was pure.

But slowly things were changing,
His kindness disappeared,
I heard my mama’s warning,
And finally faced my fear.

She told me not to settle,
For someone causing pain,
She said that tears can warn you,
When love is not the same.

I left before he broke me,
And cried the whole way home,
I finally heard my mama,
When I was all alone.

Now when I hear her voice,
I know that she was right,
Some words stay there forever,
And guide us through the night.
