Just a Random Thursday

It was just a random Thursday when I remembered I’m alive.

I picked myself up off the floor, shook the cobwebs from my mind.

I poured a cup of inspiration with a splash of je ne sais quoi.

Snacked on revelations, chewed the bones of hem and haw.

I took a walk down main street, then fell off the beaten path,

Landed on the rusted tracks of the train from love to wrath,

I bought myself a ticket, destination unaware,

Somewhere to the left of hate and the right of full despair.

I got off in a meadow filled with questions tall as weeds,

The jumbled answers on the wind rustling through the trees.

I laid myself down on the grass and gazed up at the sky,

Hoping I could find some truth in the when, the where and why.

I saw a message in the clouds, or perhaps, just in my mind;

A message filled, not with the answers I’d surely hoped to find.

Instead, a sense of clarity, like a warm breeze, filled the air.

It’s not the where and when, but the now, at once, and here.

A pointless search for meaning through the them, the us and we,

When the only truth that matters comes within the I and me.

A lesson learned through introspection, that with hope, in me will stay.

All I really need to know is how to spread that hope each day.
