It’s Over Did It Ever Begin?

I don’t recall it did do you ?

It’s Over Did It Ever Begin?

We sat in silence avoiding each eye

Two tired strangers pretending to try

Love had grown distant and thin in the room

Wilting unnoticed like flowers too soon

Once there was passion or maybe just need

Something that looked enough like love indeed

Now every touch feels uncertain and cold

A story collapsing before it grows old

It’s over, did it ever begin

Was there real devotion beneath all the skin

Or did we just fear being lonely at night

Mistaking attachment for something more right

The photographs smile from happier days

Still I can’t tell if the joy was fake

Were we in love or just filling a space

Two wounded people afraid to face grace

Arguments faded to exhausted quiet

No energy left even trying to fight

That might be the saddest ending of all

Not rage, not betrayal, just nothing to call

You pack your clothes while the kettle hums low

Neither quite knowing the right words to throw

Years folding inward with hardly a sound

A whole shared existence shrinking down

It’s over perhaps long before today

Maybe the ending arrived on its way

Still part of me mourns what we tried to build

Even unfinished love leaves the heart filled
