It's always something

Respite for the chronically unlucky

Of course, it’s like this.

Always has been.

The incorrect order.

The stolen package.

The abusive partner.

The tragic statistic.

Worst case scenario?

Coming my way.

Absorb that bad luck

So you don’t have to!

I deign to dream

I’ll break free of this infinity,

But fear I may find

That's how it is for some.

Of course, it’s like this.

Always has been.

I blink off melancholia

Tilt my head toward the sun

Conjure my destination:

Our new place. Our home.

Gentle arms wait

To envelop me.

Share woes and fears

As you stroke my curls.

“Do you think it’s possible

To stay this happy?”

We cook dinner together

Laugh and eat on the patio.

Of course, it’s like this.

Always will be.
