It's 2am
A Poppy Challenge
It's two am and I am breathing fire,
Sitting on coals, waiting to ignite,
Your name drips from wet lips- desire,
In sizzling repose, a dreamless fight.
.
It's two am as clouds come to call,
A banking of heat in this endless night,
A yearning to touch bubbling aerosol,
A headless need- catching alight.
.
It's two am and I am darkness alone,
With cherry-soaked memories, I languish
A labyrinth of homebrewed mortar and stone,
Flames flicker in shadowing anguish.
.
It’s two am and I am breathing in heat,
On slicked satin sheets I quiver,
It’s two am and I’m begging- entreat,
Down the smoky, molten hot river.

You used repetition so impactfully. The opening two lines has me instantly hooked. "With cherry-soaked memories, I languish A labyrinth of homebrewed mortar and stone" This was my favourite part. So well written
Fantastic poem, Rachael, you have a wonderful gift for words
I love how you started all your stanzas with 2am! Such a brilliant take on the prompt!
