"It hurts to wait..."
For my lovely, earnest, suffering, young single friends, and for widows and widowers everywhere
If what's been said is true, why are we so long constrained to wait?
They bid me shun impatience, they tell me to be still
It's said an honest soul can find her destined mate
Must thunder follow lightning? If so, the sound comes late
Is this yellow hurt a test of faith? Is it to strengthen human will?
If what's been said is true, why are we so long constrained to wait?
What shall I say when I 'gainst wearied heart take up debate?
Ought I settle meekly now or must I wait until?
It's said an honest soul can find her destined mate
Is it well polite acquaintance with fevered love to equate?
Might then life grind such compact to love in time's reluctant mill?
If what's been said is true, why are we so long constrained to wait?
Is this some yellow chance, or malign, uncaring fate?
And what of those who've lost their loves, whom time did so untimely kill?
It's said an honest soul can find her destined mate
Is not the urge to find a love inborn, designed, innate?
Are we to wait with lonely hands upon a well worn window sill?
If what's been said is true, why are we so long constrained to wait?
It's said an honest soul can find her destined mate
