I used to go over granny's house

I love her cooking, fried chicken and collards and sweet potatoes pie

And when we eat, she would tell

The story about freedom

She would talk about her mother and father fleeing the whip after years and years of struggling.

She would hum those old spirituals

Abuse and violence are the way of the world. Quick getting are for the weak hearted but strength comes from building, enduring and fighting. A man can be free from chains but if his mind is bound then he is not free. And that even though, we're free by law, our hearts are stuck in the chains of abuses. It's not, it did not take a day to be free. You have to learn about your past, know your people, and know your family. You must understand your strengths and weaknesses then you can overcome. You have to recognize patience power and its virtue. Faith was stolen from us by lies and deceit. Hope was forbidden by law and life. However love for yourself, love for decency and love for what's right conquer all that fear. You must dare to be great unfolding all the foolishness of life and remember humbleness with the quiet power of forgiveness. It did not, no it could not take a day to be free. My granny stressed this with her stern voice and strong hands as I remember at her feet and rising to a powerful hug of hope.
