Is Getting Along Enough?

In my view No

Is Getting Along Enough?

Today the headline whispers through the nations,

through crowded rooms and quiet kitchen chairs.

Is getting along enough to heal the fractures,

enough to answer all our prayers?

Two figures stand within one woven garment,

their shoulders pressed, their movements tight.

Bound not by love, but by necessity,

forced to share the day and night.

We say we get along, we keep it civil,

we do not strike, we do not shout.

But underneath the careful conversation,

do we leave compassion out?

Is peace just absence of a raised voice,

a truce that trembles, thin and weak?

Or is it choosing understanding,

when pride would rather refuse to speak?

The world can wear a shirt of mere agreement,

stitched together out of fear.

Yet hearts remain a guarded distance,

standing close, but nowhere near.

Getting along is not the summit,

it is the first uncertain stair.

Enough begins where walls are lowered,

where truth is held with patient care.

Top story now, a deeper question,

not can we stand side by side.

But can we walk with mercy between us,

and let our stubbornness subside?
