Strong armies that took over lands far and wide,

Their power and discipline filled Rome with pride.

From simple recruits of good birth and job,

Powerful soldiers in Rome's ranks were made.

Tall and strong, with all fingers intact,

Physical perfection, a strict contract.

Letters of good character would prove their worth,

To join the elite, they'd show their strength.

Equipped with armor, a lobster-like disguise,

Helmets protecting from all sides.

Shields made of wood, covered in refined metal,

To protect against enemies that dared to battle.

The gladius, their sword of brutal fame,

For stabbing and killing, no wounds to claim.

Pila to fly and make shields useless,

Chaos they'd cause on those they'd soon beat.

Marches of twenty miles were part of their training,

In burning heat, their determination remaining.

Wooden posts faced their swords' angry hits,

Preparing their strength for war's scary bits.

Harsh punishments kept discipline strong,

Decimation a fate from which none could run.

Ranks and hierarchies, a well-formed structure,

Ensuring each role was dutiful, well-ordered.

Camps they built, large war architectures,

Where eight souls shared rooms, often visiting prostitutes.

On campaign, their food precise and small,

Eighteen thousand pounds of grain, a humbling call.

Crazy details abound in this powerful empire's story,

Of soldiers whose prowess would seldom wane.

Their victories and struggles, forever inscribed,

In the records of history, forever imbibed.
