In Winter first frost love was born

Oh Grandma, where did you meet him?

My granddaughter asked me at his funeral today.

I told her about our first long walk on a winter’s frosty night.

The ground was slippery, the air was cold,

Your grandad he reached out for my hand.

As we strolled, a quiet warmth began, a love we’d never planned.

He pointed upward, and I saw a star that shot so fast across the sky,

And from that moment, deep inside, I knew our love would never die.

We married then, we raised our own family, full of cheer,

Through every frost and every storm, your granddad held me near.

The shooting star that sealed our fate, still lingers in my heart,

It marked the day our love began, and we vowed to never part.

Now here we are, this frosty day, to say our last goodbye,

The ground is cold, no stars appear to cross the winter sky.

But up in heaven, he will watch, and when the snowflakes fall,

I’ll feel his love, I’ll hear his voice, in every frost-filled call.

Oh, how I long to be with him, but now’s not yet my time,

Our story started on a winter’s frosty night and ended with this rhyme.

My granddaughter wept as she turned my wheelchair;

All the family walked away,

But I smiled at them, my heart at peace, on a winter’s frosty day.

I know soon he’ll come back to me, once more to whisk me away,

And we will be together again, and once more all will be okay.
