In its Nature

An Attack

In the hush of the dark, I lay at ease

In Dreamland’s glee, I am well pleased

All my imagination I can achieve

There are no worries or cares for my mischief.

A smile, my dreamy lips spread

Unaware of the peril that would soon displease

A sense of unease, a whisper of dread

As slumbers veil wraps around my head.

Suddenly, I am pushed from Dreamland’s make-belief

My heart races wild, and my senses on keep

In shadows cast, a creature lies

A shade of night with gleaming eyes.

A silent hunter in armored form

Its potent weapon, ready to strike

A predator’s dance, swift as light

A creature so alien, yet sharing my night.

A stranger to me, then why attack

To disturb my night, what’s to claim?

The creature replied with a solemn refrain

"It's my nature to sting, no malice, no gain."

A moment's impulse, in his deadly aim

But lessons learned in the dark's chilling grasp

A slumber I now do with lights aglow

No shadows to hide where devious creatures go.

My mind is alert, where’s Dreamland’s glee?

The night holds secrets, both beauty, and fright

In its embrace, I find solace… I might

A scorpion's lesson etched in my heart.
