I’m Alright, I’m Alright…

Notes Of Sanity

By Kelli Sheckler-AmsdenPublished 5 days ago • 1 min read

They stand in the garden over flowers and worms

Content with their stations, at peace with the world

Greeting the neighbors and friends with the birds

Never chasing their dreams, never saying a word

Or so I thought, as I crawled out of my bed

Out from under warm sheets, down the hallway I crept

Awakened by whispers as the world around slept

Trying to convince me, it was all in my head

There they were, on the porch swing, serenading the moon

The same moon that had been softly smiling into my room

Now he was twirling, singing slightly off tune

While the two pumpkin people together happily swooned

They danced and they laughed holding each other tight

Under the influence of love and this beautiful night

Breathlessly enchanted by the moonshining bright

Unbeknownst to us all living a whole different life

When I got caught up in the moment and tripped over the chair

Our eyes met for a second and we were stuck in a stare

When I blinked, it was over and they were no longer there

And I was, alone in the moonlight, in my underwear

I grabbed my flashlight and slippers and made my way to the garden

Then the neighbors came out, after seeing the lights on

I stood there mumbling aloud sounding like a complete moron

So they went back inside leaving me alone on my lawn

To this day I don’t know if what I saw was real

My therapist says it’s important to write down what I feel

So this is just a poem about the moon on my sill

Not pure hallucinations from those ambien pills
