Illusions

Hindsight

By Kelli Sheckler-AmsdenPublished 10 months ago Updated 10 months ago 1 min read

I've learned that nothing is what it seems

When dreams dreamt, meet the hard concrete

Was it real or just a dream

*

When happiness left me filled with grief

I found solace, sitting by the stream

I've learned that nothing is what it seems

**

I tried keeping up with the machines

Wrote it all down, behind the scenes

Was it real or just a dream

***

Life picked, with dirty nails, the seams

Cause lessons rarely come for free

I've learned that nothing is what it seems

****

I woke up scared in borrowed sheets

Fear seems to have gotten the best of me

Was it real or just a dream

*****

The verdict made, no final pleas

Made these cement shoes to fit my feet

I've learned that nothing is what it seems

Was it real or just a dream
