If you'll show me yours
I'll show you mine.
I’ll show you mine
If you show me yours
______
Do you know I love you?
I’ve been trying to show it,
Clumsily
In so many ways
For such a long time.
You don’t respond
So I’m never sure you hear
Or understand
– All those things I’m not saying.
Or maybe you do, and just ignore it.
And that’s sortof the point
If I don’t actually say those words, then I can still deny those feelings.
Even though
It is actually ridiculously obvious
In every look, letter, conversation.
And thought.
But to say those words
Well, I’m not so brave I guess.
I don’t dare to throw my heart, unwrapped
At your feet.
To try to make you finally notice and acknowledge.
I don’t want it stepped on! Kicked away. Rejected.
Or, worse,
Left still unnoticed to dry in the dust.
You show me yours first.
About the Creator
Jill Harper-Judd
I've been writing poetry and short stories since childhood....but my life has often been chaotic so (mental) space to write can be hard to find. I am a lover of words and the worlds we can create with them. I seek beauty in all things.
