If we are oil and water,
which one of us is the oil,
and who is the water?
If I was the oil,
then I could make a stain,
and be hard to wash out.
If I was the water,
then I’d eventually disappear,
drying up and leaving.
If I was the oil,
then it might remind me of…
an anointing of some kind.
If I was the water,
then it might remind me of…
being water baptized.
Water and oil may not mix,
but they are attention-catching.
Water and oil can surface,
and survive,
for a season at least.
