If Only You Knew the Power of Love

Written My Freshman Year of High School

Sometimes in life all we need is a helping hand to feel loved.

A girl who feels like she's never been loved,

She feels invisible and worth nothing much.

She hides her pain behind a smile,

But it slowly fades after awhile.

She seems happy day and night,

But soon she lives a different life.

Hiding in the shadows and gripping her arms,

Ready to tumble, so she falls down hard.

If only you knew what people go through,

You wouldn't behave the way that you do.

Wouldn't bully the outcasts when they pass by,

You wouldn't wish for them to die.

A boy who thinks he's neither cute nor smart,

Begins to slowly feel pain in his heart.

There's a dark, lonely place where he likes to go,

To him his life will forever be but a joke.

Later he tries to chase away his blues,

Running fast, what does he bump into?

A fallen girl with the deepest of eyes,

They look like they hold all the answers in life.

They stare at each other for what feels like an eternity,

But there is someplace they'd both rather be.

If only you knew what people go through,

You wouldn't behave the way that you do.

Wouldn't bully the outcasts as they walk by,

You wouldn't wish for them to die.

Nervously, he offers his hand to help her up,

She takes with her throat full of lumps.

As they walk away there's only one thing they think of,

And that, dear reader, is the power of love.
