Is it easy, do you think, to work where love has faded?
To thicken the veil behind which my honesty is paraded,
To no longer feel the thrill of a new dawn breaking,
Feeling respected no more, my spirit slowly aching...
I know, and so do they, aware of this game we play,
This knowledge pushes me further into dismay,
Each morning I rise, to their faces, I smile,
Pretending to love this, mile after mile.
Tired of this act, wishing I wasn't here,
Wishing for courage, free from all fear,
If only responsibilities didn't bind me so tight,
If only there were no ifs, maybe then I might...
Chase the light in the darkness, searching for a spark,
Hoping one day I'll find the way out of the dark,
Maybe then I'll muster the courage, at last,
To carve a new path, free from the shadows cast.
