If One Day The Sun Stopped Shining

A poem

By Nichole CallawayPublished about a year ago • 1 min read

If one day the sun stopped shining

The flowers wilted up

The color drained from every living thing

If the warmth we all felt was replaced with a frigid ice

So cold it numbed our fingers and chilled our bones

If my vocal cords were cut and the only sound I could make

Was gasps and moans as I tried to comprehend my situation

If one day I woke up and couldn’t see

Or couldn’t hear

Or couldn’t walk

If all of these things were to happen at once

They still wouldn’t be as terrible and painful

As if one day you ceased to exist

If one day you were gone without a trace

For I would be so lost

So confused

So empty

So void

Without you, there would be no point.
