If I Wrote My Own Obit

Wouldn't I Be Something

She preferred milk chocolate

and renaissance art

Carried a snakeskin wallet

and old credit cards

An extraordinary creature

living an ordinary life

She wasn't supposed to be here

cut her pathway with a knife

A heartbreaking assignment

she shattered life, like broken glass

She was married, then, she wasn't

said, he didn't like her ass

In honor of her spirit

indomitable as it was

She would gladly disinherit

and then accept it, after pause

An utterly inappropriate attitude

she fit nicely in her skin

Occasionally seeking solitude

she'd flash the devil's grin

She was a dreamer, true believer

though she sometimes would start a fight

She called for a do-over

so that she could get it right

She sought the truth and found at times

it could be a bit illusive

She liked to play with words and rhyme

sometimes she spoke in cursive

She drank her whiskey neat

and hated the taste of coffee

All of her teeth were sweet

and her choices could be foggy

She never smoked a cigarette

unless she was feeling tipsy

She bore the feelings of regret

and could get a little misty

Recalling moments of her past

riding bikes without her hands

Never wanted to be outclassed

she did the same when choosing men

She had her heart broken, (a time or two)

but true love left its mark

Rarely was it ever spoken of

only one man held that spark

A true do it yourselfer

she would never ask for help

Sometimes a self-saboteur

when she was overwhelmed

A Pisces and a twin

she loved her classic rock

The true original sin

is the speed of one's life clock

It, like she, drove like a demon

with its tail set on fire

There were no rhymes or reason

to her odd, daily attire

But she sure could love fiercely

and gave it all because

Her heart loved so sincerely

and that's just the way she was
