If I Make It That Far

a poem

By Aaron MorrisonPublished 5 months ago • 1 min read
art by me

Ill fitting jean shorts

Monochromatic tshirt

With a pocket on the breast

Oh lord

Shuffling around

In off brand tennis shoes

Socks pulled high

All fashion sense dead

But maybe I’ll rep old bands

Like a real cool cat

Or maybe that’s a sign

I’m living in the past

Looking for threads

To reach out and grasp

And it’s

Lame if I do and

Lame if I don’t

Guess it’s observer’s decision

And I don’t get a vote

But it is what it is

Don’t have the energy

To put up a fight

But I’ll try to still be me

When my red turns to white

And when it comes that time

Let me go out like a man

Knife in my hand

Like Brad Pitt

In Legends of the Fall

Me vs bear

In the woods of Ocala

‘Cause there’s no ice floes

In the state of Florida

Rather be a faded memory

Or turned into animal scat

Than be waiting to be rolled over by a nurse

Fuck that

And don’t cry at my grave

Not that you would anyway

Just say

He wrote a few good stories

And his poetry was okay

A bit of an ass

But we’ll give him a pass

Since he was self deprecating

And could teach the hell out of math

Underdressed

Overmatched

Took on more than he could manage

Transformed into grub

For Ursus americanus
