I Wish You Were Mine
I want you in my life forever

I Wish You Were Mine
I watch you laughing from over the room
Bright as the first day of flowers in bloom
Every small movement pulls hard at my chest
Waking old longing that will not rest
You speak my name and the whole world shifts
Simple soft moments becoming gifts
Still you belong somewhere far from me
Close enough touching yet never to be
I wish you were mine on cold winter nights
Mine in the mornings soft covered in light
Mine when the whole world grows cruel and unfair
Someone to reach for and know you are there
Instead I keep silence stitched into skin
Hiding the ache that keeps growing within
Smiling politely while swallowing pain
Watching your fingers entwine once again
Perhaps in another strange version of time
Your lonely heartbeat would answer mine
Perhaps we would walk hand in hand in the rain
Instead of pretending we feel nothing again
Love can be beautiful cruel and absurd
Built from the absence of unspoken words
Some feelings bloom knowing fully they must
Never become more than sorrow and dust
Still late at night when the dark settles thin
I imagine your breathing somewhere near skin
One impossible wish circling through
That somehow one day I might belong too
