I Will Follow You

My friend once told me to reject what other people tell me to follow.
“Follow your dreams”.
“Follow the truth”.
“Follow a concept, an idea, a person.”
Should we follow the yellow brick road?
She said, screw the yellow brick road.
Follow the giggles.
Follow the hugs with the gentle scent of cologne as you breathe in.
Follow the ruddy cheeks that don’t make you want to hide.
Follow the outings when you aren’t left jacketless in the cold,
The meals where you can’t help but watch their mouth as it talks,
And the warmth that climbs up your body with every smooth smile.
Never follow what someone else believes,
Never think that somehow you have to be on your knees
To someone else.
At the end, just know my friend
You must follow yourself.
