I Want You To Stay Away

A Poem

I want you to promise me that you’d stay away.

Stay far away when I start to burn

and like a blazing furnace

consume everything standing in my way.

Stay away and don’t ever come near,

Not even to warm your lonely heart.

For it is not warmth that you will find

When you see me turn into fire.

I want you to promise me that you’d stay away.

Stay far away when I start to bleed

and my eyes cut through like a knife.

Stay away, I tell you… or die!

But you didn’t listen — you never did,

And when I burned, you cloaked me in your arms.

You would have died, you would have bled,

But you stayed with me, and your love has saved me in the end.
