I Thought I’d Moved Past This
My Own Undoing

When the lonely lingers
And my doubts arise
The fear remembers
Every scar that I hide
Highlighting emotions
I’ve kept shoved way down deep
Tearing me open
Stealing my peace
Leaving me frozen
Unable to sleep
Afraid and alone
As the emptiness creeps
Guarded again, hiding in plain sight
Insecurities seep
As I wait for daylight
To come and save me
And revive my life
I thought I’d moved past this
Let it go let it die
But this ghost comes to revisit
Till my peace is all gone
And I’m back in this prison
With these bars that I don
Chains depleting my vision
Wrapped up with unending guilt
In a constant collision
With the truth and the lies
That compounds my division
Resurrected at night
When the sleeplessness comes
All alone as I cry
For relief that leaves me undone
