I See Me

A Poem

It’s been so long since I’ve seen myself.

Every scar, bruise, and mark hasn’t changed,

but I still didn’t see me.

My silhouette was still mine, maybe smaller in size from the last time I looked,

maybe darker circles around my eyes,

but nowhere was there a sign of my life inside of me.

A phantom walked in my shoes for several months.

And now that I have my shoes back, I have outgrown them,

letting go of what once was and accepting what is now.

And so I took a photo of myself in hopes I can see my reflection showing me,

and this time,

it’s all of me.
