*

he entered my room

like I should be afraid

surrounded with gloom

and an old sickled blade

"I've been waiting for you"

I said, while clearing my throat

his face went askew

and I tried not to gloat

*

"yeah, you're the third one today

you'd think that he be getting tired

of sending new blood my way

and my sending them back expired

*

but okay, if you insist

you'd better hang on to your bones"

I rolled over and sniffed

as he let out a moan

*

"is this your first day on the job?"

I asked, as he began to tremble

his head rattled when he nodded

I sighed, "ok, I'll try to be gentle"

*

"you see, he's afraid to face me himself

your master, the devil

I told him how bad his breath smelled

the last time we had an encounter..

*

so he tried to be tough

but he wasn't my first

I said, I'm calling your bluff

because my ex was THE WORST!"

*

"then he fumbled about

turned all red and got threatening

he began to sputter and shout

about my day of reckoning"

*

"but you see, I'd been through it

I'd had my heart torn apart

from a man with a ring

and a fatal wounding shot"

*

"the kind that makes your ears bleed

clear down into your soul

as much as I wanted to plead

all that was left is a hole"

*

"and just like bleeding turnips

or oil from a stone

I didn't do it on purpose

it's just that fuse had been blown"

*

"nothing much touches

a heart that's been scorned

no threats or repercussions

when that pain is transformed"

*

"so, yeah...he shivers a little

if you mention my name

and my face makes him piddle

and leaves him feeling ashamed"

*
that little demon started to cry

and I felt kinda bad

I thought, ok, maybe this time

because of the day that he's had...

*

"well, it seems the third time's your charm

I'm going to let you return

tell him, I won't cause him any harm

and I'll just leave him to burn"

*

"as long as he leaves me alone

to binge reruns of supernatural

you see, it's my kind of show

where the devil's peace is the collateral"

*

"don't let me see you round here again

or the next time will be personal

you've got till the count of ten

to make yourself invisible"

*

he disappeared from my sight

and they haven't been back since

the last time on that night

when I told the devil, "hey, kiss this"
