I Love My Queerness More Than Anything

Pride Month Ruminations

By Maura Fisher-BernsteinPublished 2 years ago 1 min read

After the Parade, we go home to live -

Rainbows removed on the bus, cast aside -

Sweaty, tired - I have nothing else to give -

Life demands so much, sets our strides too wide -

And I should remain hopeful, prideful, strong -

Keep my head high, my comebacks impressive -

Instead, I am listless, I long for our queer song -

I long to be loud, free, out, excessive -

Hiding causes undue sweat on my brow -

Tears streak my cheeks, I am a leaking sieve -

The colors in my closet hide for now -

Like I did - it has been hard to forgive -

I love my queerness more than anything -

But I wish the world was more welcoming.
