I'll Miss You,
I said, as he headed to the door
grabbing his toys scattered there on the floor
To play in the yard with his friend and neighbor
as the time ticked away on the clock
**
I'll miss you,
I said, as I dropped him at the door
and repeated that phrase every phase he moved forward
When he got to the entrance, he looked back once more
and my heart inside started to rock
**
I'll miss you,
I said, as we loaded his car
packed his room up in boxes, college wasn't too far
But still his room was empty, as I made my way down the hall
new journeys for us both to unlock
***
Days turned to years and he raised up his own
took them to school, and I smiled, how they've grown
I sit reminiscing, wondering how the time's flown
it seems to make its way around the block
****
I'll miss you,
He said, and gave my hand a squeeze
I can smell the flowers wafting in the cool evening breeze
Saying goodbye to someone you love is never easy
but the hands of time cannot be stopped
