I'll Be Your Hymn

A Shakespearean Sonnet

The Kiss (Le Baiser)

I will not rest until we see the sun

For our superb fatigue feels like a silk

Under the screaming stars we are undone

Because minutes with you are sweet as milk

***

We stay in this embrace while dewdrops dance

Among the grassy space between crossroads

We cannot fight this effortless romance

Our hearts cannot sing any more plain odes

***

I wonder what it would be like without

Without the scent of you abreast my breath

Perhaps I’d feel like Lethe in a drought

Or daggers held in hands of Lord Macbeth

***

I gladly turn my head from thoughts of grim

Instead, I’ll lay with you and be your hymn
