I Left You When You Needed Me The Most

I am sorry I was drowning in my tears. It was for the best

I Left You When You Needed Me The Most

I left you when you needed me the most

Those words still follow behind my days

Not as a wound asking forgiveness

Only as truth that never fades

You needed saving from your own choices

You wanted somebody to stand and stay

Yet I had spent years disappearing

Every single time you lost your way

You called my leaving abandonment

I called it reaching the final line

Because being needed is not the same

As being loved in return with time

I stayed through storms nobody noticed

Held together what was falling apart

Until my hands forgot their purpose

And exhaustion entered my heart

Then came the moment everything changed

You asked again and I stood still

Not from cruelty and not from anger

Only because I had nothing left to give

You looked at me like I betrayed you

As if sacrifice should never end

As if my role was endless rescue

Not a person and not a friend

I walked away with shaking footsteps

Carrying guilt beside relief

Knowing two things can exist together

And neither one weakens belief

So yes, I left when you needed me most

And maybe that sounds cold to hear

Yet staying while disappearing myself

Would have cost far more than leaving there
