I kissed the flame
i knew that you were danger
the first time that we met,
a fire dressed in kindness
i never could forget.
your eyes were full of secrets,
your hands were warm with lies,
but still i saw forever
reflected in your eyes.
you touched me like a promise
that heaven could not keep,
then planted burning memories
inside me while i sleep.
i knew your love would hurt me,
i knew i’d bear the blame,
but something pulled me closer
until i kissed the flame.
your lips became an inferno,
your arms became my chains,
you left your name still glowing
inside my empty veins.
yet i would not erase you
or hide from what you gave,
for even love that burns us
can teach us to be brave.
i kissed the flame and lost you,
but this much still is true,
the fire did not destroy me,
it burned me free from you.
