I hope life will treat you kindly.
I hope, with everything that remains inside me, that the world will be gentle with you. I hope it will not ask you to carry more than your heart can bear. I hope that when you wake up in the morning, there will be something waiting for you that makes getting out of bed feel worthwhile. I hope there will be sunlight on the days when everything feels dark. I hope there will be warmth when the world feels cold. I hope there will be someone beside you when silence becomes too heavy to carry alone.
And if there are days when life is cruel to you—and there will be, because life has never promised any of us otherwise—I hope you remember that you are still worthy of tenderness.
I hope you never allow the difficult days to convince you that you were born only to suffer through them.
I hope you never mistake the people who failed to love you properly for proof that you were difficult to love.
I hope you never look at the scars life leaves on you and think they make you less beautiful.
I hope you never become so accustomed to surviving that you forget you were meant to live.
I hope life gives you reasons to laugh until your stomach hurts. I hope you have evenings that stretch into nights because neither you nor the people around you are ready to say goodbye. I hope you find songs that somehow understand things you could never put into words. I hope you discover places that make you stop for a moment and think, “I am glad I am here.”
I hope you fall in love with ordinary things.
A quiet morning.
A cup of something warm between your hands.
Rain against a window.
The smell of the air after a storm.
A familiar voice saying your name.
The feeling of clean sheets after an exhausting day.
A road with nowhere urgent to go.
A sky painted in colors you did not expect.
I hope you learn that happiness does not always arrive loudly.
Sometimes it comes quietly.
Sometimes it sits beside you without announcing itself.
Sometimes it is only a moment.
And I hope you notice those moments.
I hope you let them stay.
Because you deserve a life that is more than merely getting through the day.
I hope you have all that you ever dreamed of.
Even the dreams you were once too afraid to say out loud.
Especially those.
I hope you become everything you once imagined you could be before the world taught you to make your dreams smaller.
I hope you travel to the places you have always wanted to see.
I hope you stand somewhere beautiful and feel completely, overwhelmingly alive.
I hope you build the life you used to imagine when you were younger—the life where you had enough, where you felt safe, where you were surrounded by people who chose you without hesitation.
I hope you get the career you wanted.
The home you dreamed about.
The peace you spent years searching for.
The mornings you once thought belonged only to other people.
I hope you accomplish the things you told nobody about.
I hope you prove every cruel voice inside your head wrong.
I hope you become proud of yourself—not because you became perfect, but because you kept becoming.
Because you kept trying.
Because you kept walking even when you had no idea where the road was leading.
I hope you receive the apologies you deserve, even if they come too late.
And if they never come, I hope you eventually realize that your healing cannot depend on someone else finding the courage to admit what they did.
I hope you forgive yourself for the things you did when you were simply trying to survive.
I hope you stop punishing yourself for not knowing then what you know now.
You were always learning.
You were always becoming.
You were always doing the best you could with the heart, knowledge, fear, and understanding you had at the time.
Please be gentle with the person you used to be.
They were trying to get you here.
And I hope you find people who understand that.
People who do not make you beg for basic kindness.
People who do not make you question your worth.
People who do not turn love into a battlefield.
People who do not make you feel as though you have to earn the right to be cared for.
I hope you find someone who sees the parts of you that you usually hide.
Someone who notices when your voice changes.
Someone who knows when you say “I’m fine” but you are not.
Someone who understands your silence.
Someone who stays when there is nothing exciting happening.
Someone who does not only love you when you are easy to love.
Someone who loves you when you are tired.
When you are afraid.
When you are confused.
When you are imperfect.
When you are quiet.
When you are too much.
When you are not enough for yourself.
I hope you find a love that feels like home rather than a question.
A love that does not make you wonder where you stand.
A love that does not require you to disappear piece by piece just to keep it alive.
A love that gives you room to breathe.
A love that makes you feel more like yourself, not less.
And if you already have that love when these words find you, then I hope it grows.
I hope it survives every difficult season.
I hope you keep choosing each other when choosing each other becomes difficult.
I hope you grow old beside someone who still looks at you with softness.
I hope there are gray hairs and tired mornings and inside jokes that make no sense to anyone else.
I hope there are photographs where neither of you looks perfect, but both of you look happy.
I hope there are ordinary years that become, in retrospect, the most beautiful years of your life.
And I hope you have happiness.
Not the kind of happiness people display for the world.
Not the kind that needs to be photographed or announced.
I mean the quiet kind.
The kind that settles somewhere deep inside you.
The kind that makes you realize, without needing to explain it to anyone, that you are okay.
The kind that arrives after you have spent years thinking you would never feel okay again.
I hope one day you wake up and realize that the thing you once cried yourself to sleep over no longer hurts.
I hope you have a day when you suddenly notice that you have gone hours without thinking about what used to consume you.
I hope you laugh and realize you have forgotten, for a little while, that you were ever broken.
And maybe you will feel guilty for being happy.
If you do, please don’t.
Please don’t apologize for healing.
Please don’t feel disloyal to the past because you found peace in the present.
You are allowed to become happy after heartbreak.
You are allowed to smile again.
You are allowed to build something beautiful from what once destroyed you.
You are allowed to live.
And above all this -
more than success,
more than money,
more than recognition,
more than the dreams you spend your whole life chasing,
more than being understood by everyone,
more than being remembered,
more than anything I could possibly wish for you -
I wish you love.
Real love.
The kind that does not need to be begged for.
The kind that does not arrive with conditions disguised as promises.
The kind that does not make you feel alone while someone is standing right beside you.
I wish you the kind of love that reaches the places inside you that you stopped believing anyone could reach.
The kind that sees your wounds and does not use them against you.
The kind that hears your fears and does not laugh.
The kind that knows your history and does not hold it over your head.
The kind that looks at you—not at the version of you that performs for the world, not at the version that pretends everything is okay, not at the version that has learned how to survive—but at the real you.
The exhausted you.
The frightened you.
The hopeful you.
The wounded you.
The ridiculous you.
The angry you.
The soft you.
The you that sometimes does not know what it needs.
And I hope that person stays.
I hope they stay long enough to learn every language your heart speaks.
I hope they understand that sometimes your silence means “please stay.”
Sometimes your anger means “I am hurt.”
Sometimes your distance means “I am scared.”
Sometimes your tears mean “I have been strong for too long.”
I hope someone learns these things about you not because you demand that they do, but because they care enough to pay attention.
I hope love finds you in a form that feels safe.
Because you deserve safety.
You deserve a place where you don’t have to keep your heart armored.
You deserve to put down the weight.
You deserve to sleep peacefully.
You deserve to be held without wondering when the arms around you will disappear.
And I hope you understand something I wish I had been able to say more clearly:
You never had to be perfect for me to love you.
You never had to have everything figured out.
You never had to be the strongest version of yourself.
You never had to hide your sadness from me.
You never had to pretend.
There were parts of you that you probably thought made you difficult to love.
I loved those parts too.
There were things you said that you probably forgot.
I remember them.
There were moments you thought were insignificant.
They weren’t insignificant to me.
There were days when you probably didn’t realize how much your existence meant.
There were moments when simply hearing your voice changed the shape of my entire day.
And perhaps that is what love does.
It takes ordinary moments and makes them sacred.
A conversation becomes a memory.
A glance becomes something you carry for years.
A laugh becomes a sound you would recognize in a thousand rooms.
A person’s name becomes something your heart says differently from every other word.
And somehow, without permission, they become woven into you.
Into the way you think.
Into the things you remember.
Into the places you avoid because they remind you too much.
Into songs.
Into seasons.
Into certain hours of the night.
Into the strange ache that appears for no obvious reason.
And perhaps the hardest thing about loving someone deeply is realizing that love does not always mean getting to keep them.
Sometimes love means accepting that another person has a life that does not belong to you.
Sometimes love means opening your hands.
Sometimes it means standing at a distance and hoping they are happy even when their happiness no longer includes you.
And God, if there is anything I wish I could make you understand, it is this:
I never wanted my love for you to become a cage.
I never wanted you to feel responsible for the weight of my feelings.
I never wanted you to stay because you were afraid of what leaving would do to me.
Love should not be a debt.
Love should not be a sentence.
Love should not be a hand around someone’s wrist saying, “You cannot go.”
So if life takes you somewhere I cannot follow, go.
If happiness calls you in a direction that does not include me, answer.
If you find a door that leads to the life you have always wanted, walk through it.
Please.
Don’t look back just because you are afraid I will be standing there broken.
I will find a way to carry myself.
I will learn.
I will heal.
I will survive the silence.
And if surviving means remembering you for the rest of my life, then perhaps that is simply the price of having loved someone as deeply as I loved you.
Because I would rather have loved you and carry the ache of losing you than never have known what it felt like to love you at all.
I would rather remember your existence with tears than live a lifetime untouched by what you gave me.
You changed me.
Maybe you will never fully understand how.
Maybe you never meant to.
Maybe you will never know how many versions of me existed before you and how many existed after.
But I know.
I know because there are things I learned from loving you that no one else could have taught me.
I learned that a heart can be both fragile and enormous.
I learned that someone can become important without asking to be.
I learned that love can be beautiful even when it hurts.
I learned that missing someone can become its own strange form of devotion.
I learned that some people leave fingerprints on your soul.
And even when they leave your life, the shape of those fingerprints remains.
So if this is goodbye -
really goodbye -
then let me say what I should have said when there was still time.
Thank you.
Thank you for every moment.
For every laugh.
Every conversation.
Every stupid little thing that meant nothing to anyone else but somehow meant everything to me.
Thank you for the days that were easy.
And even for the days that weren’t.
Thank you for the memories I will carry long after the details begin to fade.
Thank you for existing at the same time as me in this enormous universe.
Think about that for a moment.
Out of all the people who have ever lived,
out of all the places we could have been born,
out of all the roads we could have taken,
out of all the years that could have passed without our paths crossing -
somehow, for some amount of time,
we were here.
Together.
And I will never call that meaningless.
Never.
Even if our story did not become what I once hoped it would become, it was still real.
It was still ours.
It still mattered.
You mattered.
You matter.
And perhaps that is why letting go hurts so much.
Because you cannot simply erase someone who became part of your understanding of the world.
You can move forward.
You can build a new life.
You can meet new people.
You can laugh again.
You can fall in love again.
But you do not become the person you were before.
And maybe you are not supposed to.
Maybe some people are meant to change us.
Maybe some people arrive not to stay forever, but to leave something behind.
A lesson.
A memory.
A scar.
A softness.
A new understanding of ourselves.
A reminder that we are capable of feeling more deeply than we ever thought possible.
And you left something behind in me.
I don’t know if I will ever be able to explain exactly what it is.
Maybe I don’t need to.
Maybe some things are too deep for language.
Maybe some feelings were never meant to be translated.
So I will simply say this:
I love you.
I love you.
And I will always love you.
Not necessarily in the way I once imagined.
Not necessarily in a way that asks anything from you.
Not in a way that demands a future.
Not in a way that asks you to return.
Just -
love.
Quietly.
Gratefully.
From whatever distance life eventually places between us.
There may come a day when I no longer know what your mornings look like.
I may not know what makes you laugh.
I may not know what you are afraid of.
I may not know who you sit beside.
I may not know what your favorite song has become.
I may not know where you are when the sun goes down.
And one day, perhaps, I will hear your name and it will no longer break something open inside me.
I hope so.
Not because I want to forget you.
But because I want remembering you to become gentle.
I want your memory to become something I can hold without bleeding.
I want to remember you and smile.
I want to think of the person you were and be grateful instead of wishing I could change the ending.
And when that day comes, I hope I can say:
I was lucky.
I was lucky to know you.
I was lucky to love you.
I was lucky that, for a little while, our lives touched.
And if there is one thing I want you to carry with you when you leave these words behind, let it be this:
You were loved.
You are loved.
You will always be worthy of love.
Even on the days when you don’t believe it.
Even on the days when you look in the mirror and see only everything you think is wrong.
Even on the days when you feel forgotten.
Even on the days when you feel like the world would be better without your sadness, your mistakes, your complicated heart.
Please remember:
Your existence has mattered.
You have changed lives simply by being here.
You have been someone’s reason to smile.
Someone’s favorite memory.
Someone’s safe place.
Someone’s answered prayer.
Someone’s unexpected miracle.
You may never know all the lives you have touched.
That is the strange thing about being alive.
We leave pieces of ourselves in people without ever realizing it.
A sentence.
A smile.
A kindness.
A moment.
A hand held at the right time.
A door held open.
A message sent when someone needed it.
A simple “Are you okay?”
You have no idea how much of you may be living quietly inside other people.
So please, stay soft.
Even if the world gives you every reason to become hard.
Stay kind.
Even if kindness is not always returned.
Keep believing in beautiful things.
Keep looking for light.
Keep making room for joy.
Keep letting yourself be surprised by life.
And when life breaks your heart again—and someday it probably will—do not decide that the answer is to stop loving.
Do not let one ending convince you that every beginning is doomed.
Do not let one person’s inability to love you teach you to hate yourself.
Keep your heart.
Protect it, yes.
Learn from what happened, yes.
But do not bury it.
Because there is still so much life waiting for you.
There are people you haven’t met yet.
Places you haven’t seen.
Songs you haven’t heard.
Sunsets you haven’t witnessed.
Conversations you haven’t had.
Laughter you haven’t shared.
Memories that do not exist yet.
There are versions of yourself you haven’t met.
And I hope you meet them.
I hope you become someone you are proud to know.
I hope you look back someday at the person reading these words and realize how far they came.
I hope you forgive yourself.
I hope you choose yourself.
I hope you stop running after people who keep walking away.
I hope you stop knocking on doors that were never meant to open.
I hope you stop confusing pain with proof of love.
And I hope, someday, love feels easy.
Not because real love never requires work.
But because real love should not require you to destroy yourself to keep it alive.
I hope you are chosen.
Fully.
Clearly.
Without hesitation.
I hope someone looks at you and thinks, “There you are.”
As though they had been searching without knowing exactly what they were searching for.
I hope someone learns the little things.
The things you do when you are nervous.
The way your face changes when you are genuinely happy.
The things you say when you’re tired.
The foods you reach for when you’re sad.
The songs you secretly love.
The dreams you are embarrassed to admit.
The stories you tell too often.
The memories you don’t talk about.
And I hope they treasure them.
I hope they treasure you.
But even if that person never comes -
I hope you learn to treasure yourself.
Because you deserve to be loved by the person who lives inside your own skin.
You deserve to wake up and not immediately criticize yourself.
You deserve to look at your reflection and see a human being who has survived things.
You deserve compassion from yourself.
You deserve rest.
You deserve forgiveness.
You deserve another chance.
You deserve to start over.
As many times as you need.
And if there is ever a moment when you think you have ruined everything, remember that life is rarely as final as it feels in the darkest hour.
There are mornings after nights you thought would never end.
There are flowers that grow through cracks in concrete.
There are oceans that continue moving after storms.
There are stars you cannot see until the sky becomes dark enough.
Sometimes darkness is not the end of the story.
Sometimes it is simply the place from which you learn to recognize light.
So keep going.
Not because everything will be easy.
Not because I can promise that you will never hurt again.
I cannot promise that.
Nobody can.
Keep going because there are still chapters of your life that have not been written.
Keep going because the person you will become deserves the chance to exist.
Keep going because there are people you haven’t met who will be grateful you stayed.
Keep going because there are ordinary Tuesdays ahead that will somehow become memories you would give anything to revisit.
Keep going because life can surprise you.
Please let it.
And if someday, years from now, you happen to remember me -
I hope you remember me kindly.
Don’t remember only the difficult parts.
Don’t remember only how things ended.
Remember that once, there was someone who looked at you and saw something worth protecting.
Someone who wanted good things for you even when they were hurting.
Someone who wished you happiness without needing to be the reason for it.
Someone who wanted you to find your way home, even if home was somewhere they could never go with you.
Remember that.
And if you ever wonder whether I meant it when I said I loved you -
I did.
I really did.
With all the imperfect, frightened, human parts of me.
I loved you in the only way I knew how.
Maybe I got things wrong.
Maybe I wasn’t always what you needed.
Maybe I said too much.
Maybe I said too little.
Maybe I held on when I should have let go.
Maybe I let go when I should have held on.
Maybe we were simply two human beings trying to navigate something neither of us fully understood.
But whatever mistakes existed between us, please never doubt the sincerity of what I felt.
You were never nothing to me.
You were never just a chapter I wanted to rush through.
You were part of my life.
And because you were part of it, you became part of me.
So now, if all I am allowed to give you is a final wish, let me give you everything.
I hope life treats you kind.
I hope you have all that you ever dreamed of.
I hope you find joy in places you never thought to look.
I hope happiness finds you when you are not searching for it.
I hope peace finally catches up with you.
I hope you sleep deeply.
I hope you laugh often.
I hope you eat good food with people you love.
I hope you travel.
I hope you make mistakes and forgive yourself.
I hope you dance when no one is watching.
I hope you sing badly and loudly.
I hope you watch sunsets without checking the time.
I hope you take photographs you never post.
I hope you make memories that belong only to you.
I hope you wake up one morning and feel grateful simply to be alive.
I hope you are surrounded by people who make you feel safe.
I hope you are loved in ways that leave no room for doubt.
I hope your heart finds somewhere it can finally rest.
I hope the future is softer than the past.
I hope the things that hurt you become the things that teach you.
I hope you never lose your ability to wonder.
And above all this,
I wish you love.
More love than you know what to do with.
The kind of love that stays.
The kind that listens.
The kind that forgives.
The kind that tells the truth.
The kind that holds your hand through the ugly parts.
The kind that celebrates your victories without jealousy.
The kind that sits with you in silence.
The kind that makes ordinary life feel extraordinary simply because you are sharing it.
I wish you a love that never makes you question whether you deserve to be there.
I wish you a love that feels like breathing.
Easy.
Natural.
Necessary.
I wish you a love that gives you freedom without making you feel abandoned.
A love that gives you closeness without taking away your identity.
A love that sees your independence and does not fear it.
A love that sees your vulnerability and protects it.
A love that sees your entire history and still says, “I choose you.”
Again.
And again.
And again.
And if I cannot be the person who gives you that love, then I hope someone else does.
I hope someone gives you every tenderness I couldn’t.
I hope someone makes up for every night you cried.
I hope someone teaches you that love does not have to hurt this much.
I hope someone reminds you that being loved should not feel like constantly waiting for the other shoe to fall.
And I hope you let them.
Please let yourself be happy.
Please let yourself be loved.
Please let yourself live a life that does not revolve around what you lost.
Because you are more than your losses.
You are more than your heartbreak.
You are more than the people who left.
You are more than the mistakes you made.
You are more than the things you wish you could undo.
You are here.
And that is enough to begin again.
As for me -
I will carry what was beautiful.
I will carry the lessons.
I will carry the memories.
I will carry the love.
But I will not ask you to carry me.
That is my final act of love.
If loving you now means letting you walk freely into a future I cannot see, then I will love you from there.
If loving you means accepting that I may become a stranger in your story, I will accept it.
If loving you means wishing you happiness without knowing whether I will ever witness it, I will still wish it.
Because love, at its deepest, is not always about possession.
Sometimes it is blessing someone as they leave.
Sometimes it is whispering, “Go live.”
Sometimes it is standing at the edge of a life you once wanted and saying:
I hope it becomes beautiful for you.
I hope you are okay.
I hope you are loved.
I hope you are happy.
And I hope, wherever life takes you, you never forget how precious your existence is.
So go.
Go become who you were always meant to be.
Go chase the mornings you haven’t seen.
Go find the places where your soul feels quiet.
Go laugh.
Go heal.
Go love.
Go live.
And if the world is ever too cruel, remember that once there was someone who believed you deserved gentleness.
Someone who looked at your broken pieces and did not see something ruined.
Someone who saw a human heart trying its best.
Someone who, despite everything, wanted the world to be kind to you.
That someone was me.
And I hope that is enough.
I hope these words can be the last little piece of my heart I leave behind without asking you to pick it up.
Take nothing from them except the blessing.
Take nothing except the love.
Take nothing except the knowledge that, for a moment in this impossibly enormous universe, you were deeply, truly, completely loved.
And I am grateful.
Grateful that I knew you.
Grateful that I got to care.
Grateful that I got to feel something powerful enough to make goodbye hurt.
Because even this pain is proof.
Proof that something mattered.
Proof that you mattered.
And if I could stand before the whole world with nothing left to hide, with every defense stripped away, with no pride and no fear and no tomorrow promised, these are the final things I would say:
I hope life treats you kindly.
I hope you have everything your heart has ever whispered for.
I hope joy finds you and stays.
I hope happiness becomes ordinary for you.
I hope peace becomes familiar.
I hope love finds you in every form you need it.
And above all -
above everything -
I hope you are loved.
I hope you are loved when you are beautiful and when you don’t feel beautiful.
I hope you are loved when you are strong and when you are falling apart.
I hope you are loved when you have something to give and when you have nothing left.
I hope you are loved in your silence.
I hope you are loved in your chaos.
I hope you are loved in your becoming.
I hope you are loved without having to earn it.
And if there is one last truth I could leave behind after every other word has disappeared, after the pages have gone quiet, after the years have carried us far away from this moment -
it would simply be this:
I love you.
I loved you.
I love you still.
And I will always love you.
Not as a chain.
Not as a request.
Not as an expectation.
Just as one final, trembling truth from one human heart to another.
I love you.
And because I love you,
I wish you freedom.
I wish you peace.
I wish you healing.
I wish you laughter.
I wish you mornings filled with sunlight.
I wish you nights filled with rest.
I wish you people who stay.
I wish you dreams that come true.
I wish you a life so beautiful that one day you will look back at everything you survived and finally understand why you had to keep going.
I wish you everything.
Everything good.
Everything gentle.
Everything you thought you would never have.
And when my voice is gone from your life, when my name becomes only a distant memory, when the years have softened everything that once felt unbearable -
I hope somewhere inside you, a small part of you remembers:
There was once a heart that loved mine.
There was once a person who wished me the world.
And even when they could no longer stay,
they still wanted me to be happy.
So this is not me asking you to come back.
This is not me asking you to remember.
This is not me asking you for anything at all.
This is simply me letting the love leave my hands.
Letting it go where it wants to go.
Letting it become a blessing instead of a burden.
Letting it become gratitude instead of grief.
Letting it become something beautiful enough to survive the ending.
So go, my dear.
Go live.
Go love.
Go become.
Go find your happiness.
And wherever you are, whatever you become, whoever you love, whatever life gives you—
I hope it treats you kindly.
I hope it gives you all that you ever dreamed of.
I hope you find joy.
I hope you find happiness.
But above all this,
I hope you find love.
And when you do,
I hope you hold it gently.
I hope you cherish it.
I hope you never take it for granted.
I hope you know how rare it is.
I hope you know how beautiful it is.
And I hope, for just one quiet second, you remember that I once loved you enough to wish it all for you.
Even if I could not have it with you.
Even if I had to watch you walk away.
Even if it broke something inside me that may never completely be repaired.
I would still wish you happiness.
I would still wish you peace.
I would still wish you love.
Because that is what my love for you has become.
Not “stay.”
Not “choose me.”
Not “come back.”
Just -
be happy.
Please.
Be happy.
Live the life I hope you deserve.
Laugh the laugh I hope you never lose.
Love with the heart I hope the world never hardens.
And if someday, somehow, you think of me,
don’t be sad.
Just smile.
Because once, in this enormous and fleeting existence,
we found each other.
And for however long it lasted,
that was enough.
It was beautiful.
It was real.
And I will always be grateful that it happened.
I love you.
I will always love you.
And with whatever breath I have left,
with whatever words remain,
with whatever part of my heart still knows how to speak -
I wish you love.
